A typical Ecuadorian product and known around the world as “Panama hat”, synonym for its quality. The straw is cultivated on the coast of the country and the fabric is made in both Azuay and Manabí, especially by women. It is a technique recognized as a World Cultural Heritage by Unesco. Depending on how fine the straw braiding is, the price is fixed. Having pieces that can take months can cost around 1,000 euros.
